Samhain: A Witch’s Sabbat

Between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice falls Samhain, the ancient Celtic festival of the dead, a time when the Veil between the worlds is at its finest, when the fairy doors open and the living and the departed meet.

The spirits of loved ones, including pets remain with us. Memories bring them closer, so do dreams, our grief and their mementos. The invisible is woven into our physical world, our beautiful ghosts whisper through the wind, the heart still knows them well, we wish they were here in our world but…we know they haven’t gone.

Samhain marks the time for the crone witch to rule the skies, when the fae rises and darker creatures haunt the night for magick heightens with thrills and surprises. Like all sabbats, Samhain embodies endings and beginnings, life, death and rebirth. It reminds us to search for meaning, to connect with Nature and each other.

Offer apples and nuts as gifts to the departed, light a candle to brighten the way between the worlds, ring a bell to meld your spirit with their own.

Sabbats are seasonal gateways, a time for the imagination to soar. Call your ghosts in and with them weave a story both visible and invisible. Have a heartfelt Samhain.
