Spells to Stop Rain: Incredible!

We all hope, pray and wish for good weather on the day of a special event. Farmers pray for rain and when it floods people pray for it to stop. A witch’s prayer is a spell, a simple wish or a ritual created within a cast circle.

However, recently I have read that ‘witches’ on Etsy, sell spells to ensure it doesn’t rain on your wedding day. Amazing!

Rain…how is rain formed? Words like ‘evaporation’ and ‘condensation’ floated back into my memory from way back. I looked up Kid’s Britannica to fill in the gaps. In brief, rain is formed when the sun heats water on the Earth, causing evaporation. This water vaporises, cools then turns back into water droplets. These droplets form around dust through a process call condensation and create clouds. Droplets come together to form larger drops. When they all get too heavy, they fall as rain. Wonderful!

I am a wishful thinker. My life has been defined by a deep connection with witchcraft. I believe in the unexplainable, the invisible and the extraordinary, but I find it impossible to believe a spell cast by a witch would prevent rain.

A spell is a way to create sacred energy around your hopes, your pain and your connection with the world. Spells change something inside you. And when this happens your world changes. Spells also celebrate occasions, the seasons, beginnings and endings.

There are many deities of rain in the mythologies of the world, including Tefnut, the Egyptian goddess, the Norse god Thor and Cailleach, the Irish divine hag. These deities were born from the awe humans felt in their experience of rain. Once the science of weather was defined by magick, by divine personality and power. Poseidon was the moody sea storm, Iris, the bringer of hope, for she was the rainbow. The natural world was once held sacred, beyond human grasp. I sometimes think we have lost the wonder and our sense of self has gotten too big.

If it is sunny on your wedding day, be thankful and feel lucky. But if you are considering paying someone on Etsy to control the rain, it may be time to reconsider your relationship with Mother Nature. She can’t be told what to do.
