Summer Solstice: Litha: 22nd of December: A Witch’s Sabbat

The Witch’s Wheel of the Year follows the symbolic interplay of the Goddess and the God. Both represent the forces of the seasons, the fertility and dormancy of the Earth. At the summer solstice, the God is in his prime, and the Goddess is pregnant.

The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year and is both a fire and a water festival. It is a turning point of the season celebrating the sun’s magnificence before its light begins to diminish.

Although the solstice foreshadows the death of the sun, it also

holds strong to the promise of rebirth for the Goddess holds life in her womb. The symbol of the cauldron speaks of the birth to come. With fire it is a motif of the sabbat, a sacred vessel of the water element.

This summer solstice contemplate- ‘Light’ and visualise it moving through you, from your head to your feet. Ask the Goddess to hold you to her heart. You are Light. She is Mother. Surrender to her promise.
