“Grimoire” is a word of French origin meaning “grammar.”164 It is the name for a book where magickal information is written and drawn. Spells, invoca- tions, spiritual experiences, dreams, symbols, and thoughts are entered into a grimoire, also called a Book of Shadows.

Creating a Book of Shadows is a spell in itself, a record of your divine story. The act of writing the words or drawn symbols adds to the potency of man- ifesting your intention. Like all your witch’s tools, the type of grimoire you choose it up to you. It can be a simple notice book, an art folio, or an elaborate book encrusted with crystals and mysteriously locked. Flowers can be pressed into a grimoire. It can be painted, can include wax seals, photos and drawings, or a cat’s whisker.
